VYSHYVANKA (EMBROIDERY) DAY IN CHERNIVTSI NATIONAL UNIVERSITY
Traditionally Ukrainians celebrate Vyshyvanka (Embroidery) Day on the third Thursday of May.
Eleven years ago the holiday was founded by the students of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University. Today this is a nationwide festival and Ukrainians from all over the world joined as well. This year Vyshyvanka Day will be celebrated in more than 60 countries, where Ukrainian diaspora live.
Chernivtsi National University is actively involved in the annual celebration of Vyshyvanka Day. But this year the celebration will be special because it falls on May 18 – Day of Remembrance of Victims of Crimean Tatars Genocide. As a sign of solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people celebrations on the occasion of Vyshyvanka Day will be held with a new program.
A rich mixture of events typically mark the event, today the university will meet people who will get on their vyshyvankas representing a variety of patterns and designs in every region of Ukraine.
