XIX MEETING OF THE CONSORTIUM OF UKRAINIAN UNIVERSITIES AND THE UNIVERSITY OF WARSAW
On 5-6 of June, Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations Prof. Petro Fochuk and Coordinator of the Consortium from Chernivtsi University Assoc. Prof. Yaroslav Redkva took part in XIX meeting of the Ukrainian universities and Warsaw University Consortium. This event took place in Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) in Lviv.
During the meeting SSU Rector, Anatoliy Vasylyev, previous Head of the Consortium, solemnly transferred the Consortium presidency for the next period to the Rector of Ukrainian Catholic University Prof. Bohdan Prach.
At the meeting the delegation summed up the results of last year’s activities and outlined prospects for future work. Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations of Chernivtsi National University, prof. Peter Fochuk, suggested creation of the «Center for Materials Science» at the University of Warsaw. This initiative was supported by the Director of the «Center for New Technologies» of the University of Warsaw, Professor at the Institute of Genetics and Biotechnology, former UW Rector, Piotr Węgleński. Our university has a number of scientists, whose scientific achievements are well-known far beyond the borders of the country and have created powerful scientific schools. But joint Ukrainian-Polish studies (with the participation of scientists from other universities of the Consortium) would be useful for the academic science of both countries. Therefore, Ukrainian scientists, in particular from Chernivtsi, could form a powerful scientific intellectual team.
The Consortium Coordinator, Olexandr Skydan (University of Warsaw), provided information on the state of the East Studios in Ukraine, as well as presented a scholarship program for 2018-2019 offered by the University of Warsaw. In addition, he invited representatives of the University and members of Consortium to participate in the Warsaw East European Conference 2018 (http://studium.uw.edu.pl/konferencje/warsaw-east-european-conference/). The conference will be held on 28-30 of June at Warsaw University.
Then there was a presentation of a joint project of the University of Warsaw and the Precarpathian University on the reconstruction of the observatory on the mount of Pip Ivan.
After approval by the members of the Consortium, an agreement was signed between the Studios of Eastern Europe and Precarpathian University about the organization of the annual conference «Polish-Ukrainian Meetings» in Yaremche. Jan Malitsky (University of Warsaw) made a presentation on the idea of joint cleaning of the Ukrainian and Polish military cemeteries by the Consortium Universities. Within the Consortium meeting programme a number of important decisions about strengthening cooperation were taken, in particular: expressed support for internal mobility of students between Ukrainian Universities – Consortium members; exchange of information and the prospects of collaboration are coordinated within preparation and implementation of the projects of the EU Erasmus+ programme; ideas for new projects in Ukrainian-Polish relations were discussed.
«Studios of Eastern Europe» and Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University signed an agreement on the organization of the annual «Conference on Research of the Concepts of Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation». It was quite informative for all members of the Consortium to visit the office of the IT company SoftServe, which presented its success in the market of IT-technologies both in Ukraine and abroad.
The next meeting of the Consortium of Ukrainian universities and the University of Warsaw will be held at Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatyuk National Pedagogical University.
